I never was good at keeping journals ...

I forgot I even had a blog.

It's been a while since my last post. Sue me. I actually forgot about the darn thing.

Not much to blog about, even though I missed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. The trick is to check out my SisterBlog: gingerklein.blogspot.com. ('Cept she's not my sister, she's my wife.) Ginger posts everything, sometimes 2 or 3 times a week! She's good.

As for me, I'm a bit stressed, torn between celebrating my 5th year at my oil company while at the same time enduring impending layoffs. Waiting for the axe to fall, so to speak. I got a Bulova watch, and the free lunch is scheduled for Thursday.

Just finished reading: Triptych by Karin Slaughter (over the top cop/serial killer novel). Checked out 2 new books today. Most looking forward to: Measuring the World by Daniel Kehlmann.

My identity crisis has reached a new level, I fear. I was at a birthday party over the weekend with Adrian, for one of his little pre-school friends. While we were all eating cake, a little girl turned to me and asked, "Are you Adrian's grandfather?" It really adds little comfort to the fact that I recently turned 35!

Low pressure off East Coast seems to be helping out with the hurricane situation, this year. Storms are forming in the Atlantic, but are steering well north before nearing the US. I'm still tracking them, though.

Just finished reading "The Hot Kid" by Elmore Leonard. Great book, if you like gangsters and stuff.

I seem to be having an identity crisis of sorts. It's hard to explain. I get the impression that people have a hard time remembering me. Like they meet me and instead of forgetting just my name, they forget me entirely. My neighbor down the street works here, and we occasionally run into each other, and he has no idea who I am. Others here at work do the same thing - appear like they've never seen me before even though we've sat through meetings together, or whatever.

Strange. Maybe I need a new look. Maybe I blend in too well. I bet I could get a job as a spy for the feds, and I'd be the best spy ever.

Not much to add. Two potential hurricanes in the Atlantic Basin at the moment. Keeping an eye on the southernmost of the two; if it develops, it's aimed straight for Texas.

Time Flies

Hard to believe ... Morgan turns six and enters the first grade this week. Her party was at a place called Pump It Up, where everything is inflatable - slides, obstacle courses, basketball courts. I don't know about her, but I had a blast!

Ginger's parents came out this weekend and strongly recommended the northern route through Jackson, Vicksburg, Shreveport (I-20), instead of the typical I-10/59 Blue Tarp traffic jam. Apparently I-20 is more wooded and has far less traffic than I-10. I hope the word doesn't get out. I'm looking forward to trying it out, but I'm not sure when we're headed for Birmingham again.

Speaking of time flying, I'm into week 6 of Woodlands Fit - the marathon training thing. Ran seven (7!) miles last Saturday, and been in pain ever since. Luckily we got an additional day off to recover. We'll see what today's run brings.

Scam alert ...

Got a postcard in the mail today from "GSN/Parcel Service", postmarked in Houston, TX. It reads ...

"You did not pickup your
Parcel-No. <2001-C>
This is our <2nd> attempt
to reach you.
Please call me immediately
at 281-3970-9400 between
10-8 pm M-F or Sat 10-2 pm.

GSN/Parcel Service"

The bulk of the text on the card appears to have been rubber stamped in red ink. Items in above were handwritten in blue ink in a right-tilted, masculine pen.

For starters, we are not expecting any parcels. Secondly, never heard of GSN.

Did a web search and found others who report this is a scam. A company sends out the card in hopes of a return call to the number posted (which has changed through time). Once you call, you're invited to a warehouse someplace and pursuaded into joining a membership club that sells goods, appliances, furniture, etc. at a discount. You only need to give them a chunk of money plus a monthly fee.

Don't call them. It's exactly what they want you to do.
